HOW TO BE LAME How are people different from All of God's creations? Why do not the animals Divide up into nations? I have never heard of any wolf Returning to his pack Start to blame another wolf Because he turned his back For animals have never learned The art of blaming others How is it then that gentle folk May even blame their mothers Why to hear some folk tell it All troubles began that morn When everyone told their mother That they had just been born If we learn the art of blaming And if we can do it well We will become quite proficient But only time can tell. To make a list of different blames Would reach to kingdom come There is no end of things to blame But I will try to just list some You can blame it on the Democrats Or Republicans will do You can blame it on your teachers Or on the kids you knew You can blame it on the weather You can blame it on the stars You can blame it on the church Or the people who run bars You can blame it on the boss Or on his secretary You can blame it on the morose Or folk who are too merry You can blame it on your neighbors Or someone known as Todd And when you have no one else You can blame in on your God Now with all this blaming going on What does it do for you It takes away your chance to learn From every thing you do It does no good to blame another Nor to even blame yourself It only makes you like a broken cup Collecting dust up on a shelf You will not lean how to change Nor how to do things better But slowly you will forge the chain As you create each fetter That keeps you from becoming The great person you could be For with all of that blaming You can clearly see You will never learn from life With such an attitude For you must accept responsibility To profit from gratitude So stop this constant blaming others For no matter what folk claim If you keep on blaming others It will only make you lame GHVS 1997
