After we have destroyed all weapons Have you ever wondered why the first one to ever die Was a victim of his brother's hate? It was not, we are told, to get his brother's gold, For to that we could now relate. What, then, made him do it? Why did he not eschew it? Can someone out there name it? If he had used a gun or knife to take his brother's life, Then we would have some way to blame it. If it was not from greed or from his daily need, What made him dream this awful dream. It is really very, very sad that what made this brother bad Was really what we now call Self-esteem. His brother was accepted while he was then rejected, This is what destroyed our brother, Cain! He was warned of God, it is true, he was told what he must do And now his brother lay before him--slain! The centuries have passed what have we learned at last That can keep us from becoming mean? It is what we have done with God's eternal Son That can rectify our sense of Self-esteem. Do not treat God as your slave from the cradle to the grave, Lest you should finally face disaster. For this truth from the past will exist until the last -- God makes a poor slave but a great Master! G H Van Sandt August 22,1999 gvs@idt.net (201) 447-2130
