A DAD'S WISH FOR HIS SON This is a special day and I am really glad to say That it will only happen once a year, Yet it seems to me (as I ask how can it be?) That you can face this moment without fear. For so many years ago it was that I came to know A squirming wrinkled little tiny Tot And we said when he came, "What could be the baby's name?" That's how you got the name that you got. And now the years have passed until finally at last You have a wife and daughters two or three. You have a house and car and you seem to be so far Away from Paramus, my wife and me. Yet I wish for you the best more than all the rest As you feast on steak with potatoes and gravy, And next week you will find if the Post Office is kind A gift from us to our son called Davy. Now that's not very nice and I am sure you feel like ice For you long since have shed that name. It should be David or Dave for you are sober and grave Yet could you forgive me just the same. "Happy Birthday" to my lad who himself is now a dad And even a grand-daddy too. May the year to come bring to you a lot of fun In everything that you say or do. May you always find, if to faults you would be blind That you can have a lot of friends. God bless Donna and you in everything you do Until you reach your journey's end. We are very proud of you but that is nothing new For it is easy to be proud of you, son. We know that you are great and can really, really rate For in our lives you are always number one.
